Meet the Team

James Shorthouse

JAMES SHORTHOUSE

DC BScChiro MBCA LRCC
Doctor of Chiropractic

James Shorthouse is a Doctor of Chiropractic and co-founder of Elms Chiropractic.  Since graduating in 2008, he has studied under several mentors in Wales, Wiltshire and greater London.  He was first introduced to Chiropractic at the age of 17, after a motorcycle accident left him with low back pain which was hindering his ability to play rugby and swim.  After struggling for over a year, he was introduced to this incredibly effective treatment modality, where previous forms of treatment had proved ineffective.  This twist of fate, and subsequent introduction to Chiropractic, is what lead James to pursue a career in this field.

Having come from a long line of engineers, he’s always had a keen interest in engineering principles, and will happily talk endlessly about cars, motorbikes and engines to anyone that’ll listen.  This later became useful whilst studying for his Chiropractic degree as he found the biophysics and biomechanical principles that are used in Chiropractic treatment very interesting.

James has developed a keen skill-set for treating spinal dysfunction while also incorporating the peripheral joints and their interrelationship with spinal biomechanics.  Using these principles, his focus isn’t just about pain, but restoring functional capacity whilst also improving the quality of living.  Of course, this is different for every patient. This could mean that they cannot compete at high level sporting events, right through to not being to put their socks on without pain.  James prides himself on returning people back to the life they knew, and restoring optimal function.  He truly listens to each patient and aims to find a path back to good health for each of them, setting individual goals for each person.

In his spare time, James enjoys working out regularly at his local gym, long walks outdoors, cooking, listening to music, and making a fuss of any dog he can get his hands on!

CLAIRE SHEPHERD

DC BscChiro MBCA
Doctor of Chiropractic
Claire Shepherd

Claire is a Doctor of Chiropractic graduating from the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic, with Honours, in 2001. She has been treating the local community for over 20 years.

Claire learned about chiropractic care after one of her friends injured her back whilst they were travelling in Australia. She was amazed at the pain relief! So, upon her return to the UK, she decided to take her A-Levels and achieve her dream of becoming a primary healthcare practitioner.

Claire is a naturally caring person and loves helping people out of pain through drug-free, chiropractic care and encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

Claire became interested in Pilates and began practising this method of training 14 years ago. After recognising the benefits for herself, such as good posture control, flexibility and core strength, she decided to become an instructor. She has been teaching Pilates for 11 years and now runs two classes each week.

Claire also loves the outdoor life and is passionate about running and swimming.
